"Luckiest Girl in the World"

This assemblage has been put together with vintage objects relating to "housework". The work represents a naive bride whose wedding gown ultimately turns into a maid's uniform. The idea for this piece comes in the form of a protest piece. It is titled "The Luckiest Girl in the World" as this is what my husband calls me anytime I complain about not having enough time to pursue my creative endeavors.

There was a young woman from Montreal
Who met a handsome man, so dark and tall

They fell in love so hard and fast
Many a friend never thought it would last

He told her she was just like his mom
She took it all in, until she was hit with this bomb

What she didn’t know was that he really meant
He wanted to be mothered in lieu of the rent

That may seem like more than fair, you say
Don’t go there “’til you’ve wiped his bum”, day after day

So all brides to be have a listen to me
Don’t be blinded by fairytales, fantasies and glee

There is one bit of wisdom I want to impart
Go into this contract with much love in your heart

Signed,

"The Luckiest Girl in the World"
